How to Access the Track.
You can access the Alexandria Bay Walk from Parkedge Road in Sunshine Beach, where there is free on-street parking. Another access point is McAnally Drive, but the parking is restricted to locals here. The best option is to park in the bays just past Sunshine Beach Surf Club for McAnally Drive access to the National Park. Before you set off, remember always to check you have water, sun cream and hats. This walk is 4.2km and will take between 1-2 hours, depending on your fitness levels.
The sandy track takes you through a eucalypt forest up onto the headland at the southern end of the National Park. This walk has a very different feel compared to the busier Coastal track from Noosa Heads. You don’t have the view across the sea and could be anywhere if there weren’t the sound of the waves in the distance.
Alexandria Bay.
The path takes you up into heathland and then down through the forest towards Alexandria Bay. The keen botanist will be captivated by the array of wildflowers, purple fringed lilies, wattles and banksias, to name a few. When you reach the bay, you will be greeted by a large sweeping unpatrolled beach with rocky outcrops on either side. You can choose to join the coastal track to Sunshine beach or make it a longer walk towards Noosa Heads. There is always the option to get a bus or Uber back to Sunshine beach should you decide to keep walking.
Go Au Natural
Maybe you would prefer to relax at Alexandria Bay and head back the same way you came. Don’t worry if you have forgotten your swimwear; this bay Is renowned for being a nudist beach. There is certainly a more remote private feel to this beautiful white sandy bay which promotes becoming one with nature and baring all!!
It’s worth noting that there is a limited phone signal for some networks here, but there is an emergency phone in case anyone gets into trouble in the water.
This walk is one to do if you want to escape the crowds and become one with nature.
